Evans third in world rankings

Cadel Evans (BMC) has dropped to third in the latest world rankings issued by the UCI (International Cycling Union).

The 33 year old Victorian had been ranked world number one heading into the Tour de France but has been overtaken by Tour winner Alberto Contador (482 points) with fellow Spaniard Joaquin Rogriguez moving into second with 398 points. Evans is ranked third on 390 points.

The next best placed Australian is Canberra's Michael Rogers (HTC-Columbia) who is ranked 31st on 113 points. Robbie McEwen (Katusha) is also in the top 50 sitting in 40th with 94 points.

On the nation rankings Australis remains in fourth place on 723 points while Spain has added close to 500 points to remain in the lead on 1528 points. Italy is the second ranked nation with 856 points while Belgioum remains third ranked with 849 points.

The next race to count in the UCI’s World Rankings is this weekend's Classic San Sebastian.
