Cycling Australia and MTB Australia announce partnership deal

Cycling Australia, Friday, 29 June 2012

Cycling Australia (CA) and Mountain Bike Australia (MTBA) are pleased to announce a five-year partnership focusing on a range of commercial and event delivery initiatives to improve MTBA's event inventory, delivery and stakeholder services and standards.

CA's Commercial and Events department has been appointed to manage and deliver the range of international and domestic mountain bike events from 2013 to 2017. The partnership allows MTBA to leverage the expertise within CA in order to further strengthen and develop new relationships.

CA is now responsible for the MTBA National Series that includes cross-country and downhill events, the MTBA Australian Championships, MTBA Marathon Australian Championships and the 2013 Oceania Championships

Leading the event delivery team is CA's Senior Projects and Events Manager Karin Jones who has a wealth of knowledge and experience having managed the 2009 and 2010 MTBA National Series and who most recently worked on the 2010 Road and 2012 Track World Championships.

"This is a landmark agreement between Cycling Australia and MTBA and we believe it will have a tremendously positive outcome for mountain biking in Australia," said Cycling Australia CEO Graham Fredericks.

"It will allow MTBA to capitalise on the knowledge and experience within Cycling Australia and create a solid framework on which to expand and improve the delivery of events across the country.

"This will no doubt have a great flow on effect for the development and growth of the sport Australia wide," he added.

MTBA CEO Tony Scott echoed Fredericks' sentiments.

"Cycling Australia and MTBA pooling resources provides great advantages for all disciplines of cycling within Australia," said Scott.

"It will establish a collective skill base and service infrastructure that can deliver the National Series, national championships and UCI listed international events to the highest possible standards.

"The benefits to the growth and development of MTBA and mountain biking in Australia will be felt for many years into the future," Scott added.
