Merida Storm Home to Capture Inaugural Erdinger Alkolfrei Teams Series
|
Team Merida has capped off an impressive run of performances in the inaugural Erdinger Alkoholfrei Teams Trophy Series by taking out the final round held in conjunction with the 5th Annual Calliope to Biloela Classic on Sunday 18th July. Merida was dominant throughout the series with their team members rarely being outside of the top finishers in each round. Despite Sean Evangelista’s (GE Plumbing) impressive performance in taking out Round 3, David Melville (2nd), Michael Cupitt (3rd) and Chris Williams (4th) of Merida managed to take the minor placings only seconds behind. Erdinger Alkoholfrei representative Nigel Turner travelled to Biloela to get a taste of the tough racing and presented the winners cheque to the weary yet pleased top 4 finishers. Mr Turner said the series was a tremendous success considering the infancy of this form of cycle racing in Australia, and it should only grow in stature over the coming years. In rounding out the top 3 finishing teams QSM Racing managed second overall while Data #3 Racing performed solidly as a team in taking out third place in the series. Although the Erdinger Alkohofrei Series is team based there was plenty of outstanding individual achievements with series King of the Mountain (KOM) and Sprint honours up for grabs. The Merida Team once again performed strongly in these categories with Timothy Dalgliesh topping the Sprint Points Table and Chris Williams showed his overall climbing strength in taking out the series KOM Title by a considerable 10 point margin. Merida will be presented with the Erdinger Alkoholfrei Teams Series Trophy at the Cycling Queensland Annual Awards Dinner in November.
